“Comparing his healthcare plan to barn-raising, Gov. Phil Bredesen told attendees at the Democratic Leadership Council meeting in Nashville today that party leaders needed to forge a new path. ‘We must stop playing off the failures of the other guys,’ said Bredesen, who delivered the keynote address at the two-day convention. More than 300 elected officials from across the country are in attendance at the event, which focuses on moderate Democrats’ role within their party. Remarking on his childhood in a New York farming town, Bredesen described the process of barn raising, in which pioneers built large portions of the barn on the ground before raising them into position. ‘We are trying to build that barn all at once, with one rafter crashing down before we can get the next one up to support it,’ Bredesen said.” (07/30/07)
