“Brewer is not the first to promise the dawn of a new era at the Los Angeles Unified School District, but if he delivers one, he will be the first to actually make good on his lofty promises. Brewer has a lot of advantages that his predecessors have lacked. He has the vigorous support of a public fed up with the LAUSD’s culture of failure. He has the backing of a school board elected on a reform platform. And he has an ally in a mayor who has staked his legacy on saving schools in Los Angeles.
