“The road before me is achingly beautiful as I exit I-65 down US 31 toward Pulaski. It is mid-May. In two weeks Gov. Phil Bredesen will articulate the case for alternative fuel research and development in Tennessee. I am on my way to visit Bill Davis, CT education supervisor in Giles County. Our ‘Field of Fuel’ project will take place not in an Iowa cornfield, but in the farms, schools and businesses of 23 counties in south central Tennessee and north Alabama. The economics, chemistry, mathematics and marketing of cellulose harvested and converted from switchgrass, trees and corn stalks to ethanol and local refining, blending and marketing of biofuels will provide, we hope, education for students and employment and local enterprise for this region.” (09/03/07)
