“Some Republicans expressed concern about the details of Gov. Phil Bredesen’s ‘Cover Tennessee’ health initiative Tuesday, including the possibility of raising the tobacco tax. ‘The devil’s in the details, and we really don’t know the details yet,’ said Rep. Beth Harwell (R-Nashville), citing examples of not knowing what benefits will be covered and how many people will actually sign up. On Monday, Bredesen unveiled Cover Tennessee, a five-part plan that primarily focuses on providing some sort of voluntary ‘affordable’ and ‘portable’ health insurance to previously uninsured children and adults. … Th[e] uncertainty about the number of people to eventually sign up … has some Republicans worried. ‘I question whether the state should be in the insurance business,’ said Sen. Mae Beavers (R-Mt. Juliet).” (03/29/06)
