Charter schools need to be monitored

“Charter schools have been around for 10 years in Ohio. That is time enough for the schools to show results that justify their promise of better performance as alternatives to ‘failing’ public schools. Still, for a number of schools, the record of achievement is appallingly low. Marc Dann, the state attorney general, has identified the Colin Powell Leadership Academy and New Choices Community School in the Dayton area among the worst. Between them, the two schools received about $17 million in public money during six years of operation.” (09/27/07)
