“The fall season, often recognized as the ‘going back to school’ time of year, has little or no meaning for most homeschooled students, as these alternative education participants generally attend class year round. With growing concern over challenges associated with learning style, negative social environments and religion, many parents have decided that homeschooling is more beneficial for their children. Information from the National Center for Education Statistics shows that as of 2003 (the most recent data available) approximately 1.1 million American students are being homeschooled compared to 850,000 in 1999. Lori Weber, representative for the Estes Park Options homeschool program, estimates that there are over 100 homeschooled students in the Estes Valley alone.” (09/28/07)
