“Daredevil Exeter scientist Chris Fogwill hopes his trek through one of the most remote locations on Earth will help him to find out how long it can survive the threat from climate change and other environmental catastrophes. Dr Fogwill is spending six weeks living in tents in the Shackleton Mountain Range to assess the future of the Antarctic ice sheets. His research will help him to predict nature’s response to rising global temperatures that are causing sea levels to rise. … Along with fellow academic Professor David Sugden, he was dropped in the region by plane after setting out on Boxing Day and will be picked up again in six weeks’ time.” (01/31/08)
