More public funds for charter schools?

“The state’s endangered free-standing public charter schools would get a financial windfall from the school districts their students come from under a bill filed Wednesday. The House Rules Committee relaxed its deadline to accept HB 1642 as a means to save tiny public schools like Cocheco Arts and Technology Academy and Seacoast Charter School in Kingston. As of now, those schools can count on less than $4,000 per student in state aid next fall. They can’t charge tuition or levy taxes, they have to accept any student (space permitting), and their private fund raising has been an uphill battle.” (01/31/08)
