Compromise on virtual schools protects new ways to educate

“Bipartisan agreement on a proposed bill may have paved the way for peace between the state of Wisconsin and the burgeoning virtual schools industry — or at least, for now, an uneasy truce. This is good news for the 3,000 children who have found a way to excel and learn outside of the traditional public school model, by tapping into an online network of teachers and other professionals. The future of schools like Appleton’s Wisconsin Connections Academy was threatened by a court ruling that begged lawmakers to fix the existing law — and that’s the goal of the new bill.” (01/31/08)
