“As valuable as reproductive cloning is for producing livestock and research animals, most researchers were excited by the prospect of using cloning to create human embryonic stem cells. These stem cells produced by therapeutic cloning might be used to grow perfect transplants to replace and repair damaged tissues and organs.” [editor’s note: And some of us would maintain that, until an embryo reaches a certain stage of development, with at least the potential for self-awareness (demonstrable brainwaves, physical motion, etc.?), any discussion of “personhood” should be irrelevant, and since these cloned entities are not around long enough to get that far … - SAT] (05/13/08)
