“In summary, a 3-3/4 hour test can predict how you will do in the freshman year of college better than high school grades, in all groups except males, where they are very close, and together they are very predictive. The NYT article is way off base here, as the data don’t support a conclusion impugning standardized tests, specifically the SAT. I venture that the state-created tests may show very different findings. These findings suggest that while colleges may not require the SAT, and may be willing to look at your math achievement notebook instead, you would be very unwise to forgo a standardized test without very good reason.” (06/28/08)
