“The Democratic majority in the California Legislature is making another stab at injecting socialized medicine into California’s health care system. It was just over 18 months ago that voters rejected Proposition 72, which would have mandated that employers with 50 or more employees provide health insurance. The newest scheme is AB1952, by Assemblyman Joe Nation, D-San Rafael. It would mandate, in the bill’s language, that each Californian must ‘demonstrate on an annual basis that he or she has health care coverage’ or be forced to pay ‘a civil penalty for failure to comply with this requirement.’ Employers who don’t offer insurance would be fined. Residents and companies’ fines would be placed in yet another state bureaucracy, a Health Benefits Fund.” (04/27/06)
