“Ten states plus New York City and Washington, D.C., sued the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Thursday, claiming newly adopted emissions standards do not do enough to regulate carbon dioxide emissions from power plants. The states said that the EPA was refusing to regulate carbon dioxide emissions under the Clean Air Act, despite what they say is clear evidence that such emissions contribute to global warming, thereby harming ‘public health and welfare.’ The state attorneys general also allege that the EPA did not set sufficient standards for the regulation of sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides, which power plants also emit.” (04/28/06)
