“A combination of aspirin, cholesterol drugs and blood pressure medicines not only can prevent strokes but also can speed up stroke recovery, according to a new study by the American Academy of Neurology. The study, published in the April 25 issue of the journal Neurology, involved 179 patients who were admitted to the hospital within 24 hours of having a stroke. The researchers made note of many factors, including how severe the stroke was and the extent of brain-cell damage caused by the stroke. Five groups of volunteers were established. There were 20 people taking all three medications, 14 taking aspirin and cholesterol-lowering drugs, 29 taking aspirin and blood-pressure-controlling drugs, 47 people taking only aspirin and 69 taking none of the three drugs.” (04/30/06)
