“Women now make up nearly 60 per cent of Canada’s university students. Men’s share of undergraduate enrolment, meanwhile, has dropped to a dopey 42 per cent over the past 10 years. Between 1992 and 2001, the number of women grads shot up 10 per cent. Women also account for 63 per cent of part-time university students. This isn’t a fad. Women outnumber men in all but two fields of post-secondary study — engineering and math — and even there a tremor of change can be detected. Seventy six per cent of the country’s future teachers will be women, 55 per cent will be its health care workers and doctors, 61 per cent of its social scientists, 58 per cent its musicians and 73 per cent will be its pharmacists.” (10/31/06)
