“Benefits for those who enroll in the state’s new insurance plan for the working poor are still slated to start by March 31, but enrollment will begin slightly later than anticipated. State officials previously said they expected enrollment in CoverTN to begin in February. Lola Potter, a state spokeswoman, said Wednesday that it’s unclear when enrollment will begin. ‘We will be enrolling soon,’ Potter said. CoverTN is part of Gov. Phil Bredesen’s multi-pronged health initiative dubbed CoverTennessee, which also includes insurance plans for people with some serious pre-existing medical conditions, pregnant women and children, as well as a program that provides prescription drug coverage to people who don’t have it. CoverTN will offer low-cost, basic health coverage for the working poor. If 100,000 people sign up over three years, it will cost the state an estimated $130 million.” (02/28/07)
