“A school voucher program for special needs kids puts decision-making power in the hands of parents. While the just-ended legislative session was heavy with political gamesmanship, the General Assembly did achieve some important accomplishments for Georgians. One of those accomplishments was the passage of the school voucher program for special-needs kids. The plan, introduced by Senate President Pro-Tem Eric Johnson, R-Savannah, allows parents to use state funding to place a student into a different school where instruction better fits their child’s needs. Credit House Speaker Glenn Richardson, R-Hiram, with casting the deciding vote to pass the legislation during House debate.” (04/26/07)
