“Public school choice is alive and well in the Denver Public Schools as the Rocky Mountain News has reported in its ‘Leaving to Learn’ series. Denver parents have more choices than most Americans, and Colorado has worked to expand those choices through charter schools, magnet schools and open enrollment. Some promised that that competition would magically transform ‘traditional public schools.’ But Denver’s experience makes it clear that while competition can spur the desire to improve performance, the road map isn’t clear for traditional public schools, charter schools, magnets or any other. What is clear is that it’s not enough to create the opportunities for choice.” (04/27/07)
