“If the ‘detailed’ universal care plan offered up this week by Barack Obama is a demonstration of the candidate’s substance, he should confine his ambitions to the Senate. … [H]is ‘detailed’ plan is little more than a mixture of recycled liberal bromides, vague promises and wishful thinking. In essence, Obama is promising everything — affordable, comprehensive health care for everyone that costs less and provides better quality. In his world, the only thing standing in the way ‘is Washington politics and drug and insurance industry lobbying.’ Obama isn’t being naive here so much as he’s being cynical, playing on the public’s desire for a quick fix to the nation’s healthcare problems and trusting an adoring press corps to overlook the plan’s many glaring weaknesses.” (05/30/07)
