“Backers of cyber charter schools like to portray themselves as David fighting the Goliath school districts that they accuse of trying to run them out of business. Unfortunately, that battle has passed us by. Act 88 of 2002 established cyber charter schools as legal entities where students can meet the state’s compulsory school attendance laws. Unfortunately, those who support cyber charter schools have not received that message because they continue to fight the battle and accuse the Pennsylvania School Boards Association and other organizations representing public education of trying to get rid of them. If that were so, there would be bills introduced calling for the repeal of Act 88 of 2002. The reality of the situation is that cyber charter schools continue to cost local taxpayers more and more money each year.” (05/31/07)
