“All the really bright people in America are turning to the Internet to stay informed. On the Internet, the truth is out there… the truth about health, junk foods, renewable energy and even coffee. Yes, coffee (see the trailer below). You won’t find this information in the bread-and-circuses mainstream media, either! Here are five must-see videos that every solution-oriented person needs to watch: Who Killed the Electric Car?, Meet Your Meat,
Black Gold (documents the real economic story behind the coffee you drink), Be careful what you eat, Vending Machine by Faerie Films.”

“S. 3546 the Dietary Supplement and Non-Prescription Drug Consumer Protection Act (the AER bill) has been added to the Senate calendar, and staff expect it to be considered this week. … There is still time to halt this bill if you make your voice heard today and encourage others to contact Congress as well. If S. 3564 becomes law, it will amend the federal Food, Drug and Cosmetic Act to require the reporting of ’serious’ adverse events for both over the counter (OTC) drugs and dietary supplements to the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. While S.3546 was created and introduced by supporters of dietary supplements (Senators Hatch and Harkin), this is not a bill that should become law. First, we believe that this bill is a step towards treating dietary supplements more like pharmaceuticals and not like food. Second, we believe that this bill will ultimately have a negative impact on the dietary supplement industry and the consumer. Third and most importantly, a person experiencing an adverse event (especially one that is serious) from a drug (prescription or OTC), food, or supplement, should work with their healthcare professional to determine the cause.” (09/10/06)

ACTIVIST ALERT: “The FDA is engaged in conferencing with Canada & Mexico for the purpose of creating one ‘harmonized’ set of food & drug regulations for all 3 nations with zero INPUT from the PEOPLE of Canada, the USA, or Mexico. On what legal AUTHORITY does the FDA presume to take this action? What they’re doing clearly violates the Administrative Procedures Act, the Federal Advisory Committee Act, as well as other laws and I demand Congressional Oversight immediately to rein them in! This is clearly part of a planned effort to destroy America and force us into a North American Union with Canada & Mexico patterned after the EU Dictatorship. It’s being scripted by the Council on Foreign Relations. Which is what prompted the Neocons to create the (so called) “Security & Prosperity Partnership of North America.” In their “SCOPE” section FDA says their main purpose is to focus on what they call ‘HEALTH FRAUD’” (08/01/06)

“S 3546 is a really bad piece of legislation that could be used by the FDA to legally restrict or ban harmless, healthful nutritional supplements. If passed, there would be an FDA “hotline” to call, printed on the label of every supplement manufactured, if you had an “adverse reaction” to taking supplements, but no such label on (mostly toxic) prescription drugs. So, for instance, if someone were taking toxic chemotherapy drugs or high blood pressure medications as well as some vitamin C, and the person taking this combination became ill, they could easily believe (from the existence of the label) that it was the vitamin C that was causing the problem. Then the FDA could take action to restrict sales of vitamin C. This, despite the fact that the number of people who have actually been harmed or died from nutritional supplements is tiny (and then, only those who ate ephedra as if it was candy), whereas standard pharmaceutical drugs are one of the major causes of death and illness in the US (hundreds of thousands of deaths and millions of adverse reactions per year).” (07/06/06)

Ask Congress to investigate the FDA for protecting pro-mercury dentists instead of protecting pregnant women, children, and the environment. While the FDA has had a dramatic break from its policy of protecting pro-mercury dentistry, with the recent announcement that it will hold public hearings about “ potential mercury toxicity” from amalgam, especially its “neurotoxicity” there is still work to be done. Let’s make the most out of this opportunity and urge Congress to hold hearings about dental mercury and the FDA and American Dental Association roles. To date, FDA has not changed its official position on amalgam — no classifying, no pre-market approval, no warnings to pregnant women and children, no disclosure of the mercury.” (06/19/06)

A documentary film chronicling “the dangers that healthcare professionals face when they practice integrative medicine.” It defines the “tomato effect” as: (1) a term coined in medicine meaning the rejection of effective medical treatments because thy conflict with currently accepted medical theories; (2) the tomato was not eaten in the US until 1820, because it was thought to be poisonous - even though Europeans had been eating them for year with no ill effect. The film is now having limited screenings around the country. The weblink includes a Trailer in two viewing formats, as well as information on both scheduled screenings and opportunities to contribute so that more showings may be scheduled. (posted 06/04/06)
