- Competitive Federalism

- "Many libertarians envision an ideal society where everyone is a
libertarian. But if everyone is free, some people would choose to
be statists. So a large nation where everyone is a libertarian is
not possible unless the government forces everyone to be a
libertararian. And that would not be a libertarian government.
If the government can forbid people from being statists, then the
government can also forbid people from being libertarians. The
right to be a libertarian is not secure unless the right to be a
statist is also secure. Competitive federalism allows people to choose whether to live in a
statist community, a libertarian community, or any other kind of
community. Competitive federalism guarantees everyone the right to choose to
be a statist, and the right to choose to be a libertarian, even if
libertarians are a small minority."
