This summer marked the inception of an activist-oriented, liberty-loving group in Orono, Ontario, Canada. The Youth for Liberty (Y4L) was launched during what is planned to become an annual summer camp in late July. With a host of impressive speakers, guests, a vibrant audience and heated discussion, the event was a wonderful success.
Dubbed "Liberty in Action," the theme of the summer camp reflected the purpose of the Youth for Liberty-ostensibly, to inspire, motivate and activate those young, and young at heart, to do something for liberty. Whether writing articles for the media, being involved with political parties, or pamphleteering, the Youth for Liberty will provide a central network of related materials and campaigns.
Thus the topics addressed at the summer camp included activism within political parties (with talks given by Ontario Libertarian Party leader Sam Apelbaum and Freedom Party president Bob Metz), advice on getting published (provided by Karen Selick, a contributor for the National Post), as well as how to get attention (by an evident expert in the field – World Wrestling Federation's Val Venis, a.k.a. Sean Morley).
Professor Jan Narvesson (University of Waterloo, Ontario – also a speaker at the ISIL Dax conference in France) and philosopher/historian George H. Smith take notes.
The central tenets of libertarianism were also addressed with impressive talks by keynote speaker Prof. Jan Narveson, as well as author George H. Smith.
And so the Youth for Liberty is off to an impressive start.
With plans to work in tandem with bureaucrash.com, a U.S.-based libertarian "guerrilla activist" group, the Y4L will be offering complete campaigns (posters, pamphlets, stickers and so on) for campus and comunity activism.
