Samuel Edward Konkin III (SEK-III) passed away at his Los Angeles
apartment on the 23rd of February.
Sam was definitely one of the more colorful movement characters. He
was also among that group of movement pioneers who were active during the birth of the modern
libertarian movement at the 1969 Young Americans for Freedom (YAF) conference in St. Louis, Missouri.
He published his Libertarian Manifesto and wrote extensively
on counter-economics through his Agorist Institute.
Sam was also a dyed-in-the-wool science-fiction aficionado. He
conducted interviews with libertarian science-fiction legends like Robert Heinlein for publication in
his New Libertarian magazine, and was a regular on the science-fiction conference circuit
where he routinely published daily reports of the proceedings.
He was co-founder of the Karl Hess supper club in Los Angeles and
managed it up until a few years ago.
A wake for Sam, organized by noted science-fiction author J. Neil
Schulman, was held in Torrance, California on March 28th. It was attended by over 100 people and
included not only the local science-fiction writer/stars, but Sam's old friend Congressman Dana
Rohrabacher, ISIL's execs Vince Miller and Jim Elwood, Manny Klausner from the Reason Foundation and
many others.
Here is an in-depth obituary written
by Jeff Riggenbach.
We're definitely going to miss Sam – he was a good friend and
left us far too early.

KERRY
PEARSON
1961 - 2004
Kerry Pearson, known on the net under the his pen name "Lux Lucre"
passed away on January 9th at the young age of 41 – apparently from complications associated
with his diabetes.
Kerry is best known to our members at ISIL as the creator of the
outstanding flash animation of the "Philosophy of Liberty"
which can be seen on the ISIL and Jonathan Gullible websites. He collaborated with Argentinian Alvaro
Feuerman to create a Spanish version at the ISIL world conference in Puerto Vallarta in 2002 and had
been involved in creating versions in numerous other languages (including Russian and Bulgarian) at
the time of his death.
Kerry was very proud of this project and it was a constant source of
satisfaction for him to receive such an enthusiastic and constant flow of praise from around the world.
A resident of Richmond, British Columbia, Kerry was an organizer of
the ISIL world conference in Whistler, BC in 1996. He was also vice chairman of the Vancouver
Libertarians, and their newsletter editor. He had run for office both provincially and nationally as a
libertarian.
Sad to lose such a creative activist and good friend.
