ISIL Human Rights Alert
The following individuals are in need of our support. We urge you to join us in guaranteeing that their basic human rights are respected.
|
Paul Jacob, former president of U.S. Term Limits and currently the president of Citizens in
Charge, and a senior advisor at the Sam Adams Alliance, has been indicted by Oklahoma Attorney General Drew Edmondson and could spend 10 years in jail for
organizing petitions calling for a citizen vote on state spending.
The very process by which citizens can put a check on their government – the right to voter initiative and referendum – is under attack in these prosecutions.
For more information go to the Free Paul Jacob website.
Abdelkareem Nabil Soliman, a 22 year old Egyptian law student, has been in an Alexandria jail since last November for his
criticism of Egyptian President Mubarak and for "insulting Islam". On February 22nd an Alexandria court sentenced him to four years in
prison – a move described by Tom Palmer of the Cato Institute as "an enormous step backward" for freedom of speech in Egypt.
For more information on Kareem's case and on how to sign an on-line petition urging his release from prison, please click here.
Dr. Atilla Yayla President of the Association for Liberal Thinking
in Ankara, Turkey is regarded as one of Turkey's most important intellectuals. His criticism of Turkish history (Kemilism, specifically) and promotion of classical
liberal values has resulted in his being fired from his professorship at Gazi University and being subjected to a wave of vilification in the media and charges of treason.
